 SUN PROTECTION POLICY

Education

• Sun protection is discussed interactively with children.

• Children engage in activities to promote sunsmart behaviour.

• Parents are informed of importance of sun protection.

 Protection

• Equipment is moved around to provide shade.

• Gazebo’s and umbrellas are provided to create shade.

• Activities make use of available shade.

 Timetable

• Outdoor play is planned for each age group.

 Clothing

• All children are encouraged to bring wide brimmed hats to nursery and to wear them

   when outside.

• Spare hats are provided for those who forget their own.

• Children are encouraged to wear clothes which cover their shoulders.

• Children are allowed to wear UV protective sunglasses.

• Carers also wear suitable hats and clothing.

 Sunscreen

• Letters are sent home asking for permission for staff to apply sunscreen to children.

• Only factor 15 plus sunscreen is allowed.

• Sunscreen is applied regularly.

• Pre-school children are encouraged to apply own sunscreen.

• Children provide own sunscreen.

• Nursery has sunscreen for staff and children who do not have their own.
