CHARLESTOWN DAY NURSERY SICK CHILD POLICY

CHARLESTOWN DAY NURSERY SICK CHILD POLICY

Infection and illness:

Children must be kept off nursery if they have a contagious illness such as diarrhoea, chicken pox, tonsillitis, eye infections, impetigo etc.  Parents/carers must seek advice from their Doctor as to how long children need to stay off nursery.

Medicine:

Nursery has a medicine policy which must be adhered to.

Sick child at nursery:

We will observe a sick child at all times and contact parent/carer to pick them up if it is deemed necessary such as a child not settling due to temperature or generally feeling unwell.

Calpol will be administered with permission form parent/carer if needed provided 4 hours have passed since their last dose.

Child arriving with injury:

If child has a grazed knee for example then this will be treated and recorded in the out of nursery forms,  if a child has had a bump to the head or complains of pain in a limb parents/carers will be advised to take child to hospital/doctors to have a check. Out of nursery sheet will be filled in also.

Medical emergencies:

If it is felt that any child requires urgent medical attention we will call for an ambulance and try our best to contact parents/carers.  If parent/carer does not arrive before the ambulance leaves the child will be accompanied to hospital by a member of staff.
